In 2009, I was asked to take a group photograph at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a Time Out article titled ‘Why is British Comedy So Sexist?’. Four years later, I decided to go back to take individual portraits and speak to the comedians about their shows, how they felt about the media’s obsession over whether “females” could be funny, and if they thought the tide was turning.

Published in 2014, the book showcases a cross-section of over thirty women in comedy and their shows from one year at the Fringe. As well as being on the cusp of a cultural shift, the book documents well-known stand ups at the height of their fame and the early shows of up-and-coming comedians, who are now household names.

Comedians include: Sarah Millican, Fern Brady, Jenny Eclair, Susan Calman, Ellie Taylor, Lucy Porter, Zoe Lyons, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and many other amazing women.
